Beau Armistead, MA, LPC, NCC

Director, counselor

Beau Armistead is the founder and director of Sojourn Counseling. He graduated from Auburn University in 1995 with a bachelor's degree in Psychology. Since graduating from Auburn, he has worked in various settings, including counseling, case management, software and non-profit work. Beau holds a Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Adams State University in Alamosa, CO. He is a Nationally Board Certified Counselor with the NBCC, a member of the American Counseling Association, and EMDRIA, the EMDR International Association. He is a Certified EMDR therapist, a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, certified TBRI therapist, and certified provider of IASIS Micro Current Neurofeedback. Beau has a particular interest in helping people recover from trauma and PTSD. When he’s not doing what he loves at Sojourn, he enjoys anything with his family and anything outdoors… hiking, camping, backpacking, riding his Harley, or just sitting on the back porch, watching the sunset. Beau has been married to Ashley since 1996 and they have three children.

 
 

 
 

Leah Sucic

Administration

Leah Sucic is the first person you'll speak with when you call or email Sojourn Counseling . In addition to being your first point of contact, she works many hours behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly around here. Leah attended Auburn University and has worked in many administrative roles as well as event planning since her time in Auburn. She is passionate about connecting clients to the most suitable counselor and/or MCN technician. She feels strongly that all people deserve to be treated with respect and dignity and strives to make every person feel seen and respected.

Leah is married to Jason Sucic and has two sons. In her free time, she enjoys seeing live music and spending time with family and friends.

Jennifer Cargile

Administration

At Sojourn, Jennifer works with insurance, new client paperwork, billing, and grant writing. She graduated from Auburn in 2010 and currently homeschools her three children.

Outside of the time she spends working at Sojourn, she works as a birth assistant for a local homebirth midwife and as the park mom at the local softball park. In her spare time, you can find her playing wiffle ball, playing kickball, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends.

Landon Eades Smith, MA, LMSW, ICP

Certified IASIS Provider - IASIS manager and lead Technician

Landon graduated from Samford University in 2018 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Human Development and Family Education. She has also received her Masters in Social Work from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2020.

Landon is married to Baylen and had their first child in 2022, Camille. Camille was born with half a heart and is currently waiting for her miracle heart transplant inpatient at Children’s of Alabama. They are expecting baby number 2 soon, Beau Coley.

She greatly enjoys her position as the IASIS manager and oversees all things IASIS MCN. She obtained her certification of completion for MCN training in January of 2019 and has been with Sojourn ever since. Sojourn Counseling has become a family for her and she is grateful to work with individuals who deeply care about the well being of everyone who reaches out for help. This is her favorite position she has ever held!

Chris Cargile, MA, LICSW

Counselor

Chris is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and has been counseling since 2013. He completed his undergraduate work at Auburn University and received his Masters at the University of Alabama in 2013. He is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, which is a cutting-edge therapy used to address trauma, depression, anxiety, PTSD, low self-esteem, among other issues. He also works frequently with Cognitive Behavioral Therapies. Chris works with individuals and couples to address any issues of distress or concern. He is passionate about helping people work through difficult issues and find the strength to face the uncertain future.

Chris is married to Jennifer and they have three beautiful daughters. He enjoys spending time with his family, reading great books, playing music with friends, watching movies, doing at least 1 push-up per week, eating Taco Bell, drinking lots and lots of coffee, attending Shades Valley Community Church, Greek mythology, drinking more coffee, watching You-Tube videos of people falling, and drinking even more coffee.

Caitlin Denton, MA, ALC, NCC

Counselor

Caitlin is an Associate Licensed Counselor under the supervision of Matt Bunt, LPC-S. She completed her undergraduate work at UAB, and received her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Colorado Christian University. Caitlin has worked in a variety of clinical settings, including palliative care, geriatrics, and substance abuse treatment. She has also worked as a hospital chaplain since 2019, during which time she completed a year-long Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) residency. Caitlin has a special passion for helping clients recover from the impact of trauma and navigate grief and loss. She is trained in EMDR and a Level 2 Lifespan Integration trained therapist, as well as a Certified Trauma Professional. Caitlin considers it an honor to hear each individual’s unique story and journey with them through the joys and sorrows of life.

Caitlin is married to her best friend, Charlie, and together they enjoy exploring  Birmingham with their three rescue dogs. She enjoys good conversation over good coffee, hiking, eating tacos, and spending time in nature.

Sutton Shults, MA, ALC, NCC

Counselor

Sutton is an Associate Licensed Counselor under the supervision of Justin Phillips, LPC-S. He received his Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a Graduate Certificate in Trauma Counseling from Richmont Graduate University. Sutton has also received training in Narrative Focused Trauma Care from the Allender Center in Seattle, Washington. He is passionate about helping people engage their stories of harm and heartache to discover hope, healing, and restoration. He also enjoys working with athletes to enhance their mental and emotional well-being and achieve their sport-specific goals.

Sutton is married to his wife, Caitlin, and has three children. They enjoy being outdoors together. When he is not working as a therapist, he loves all things soccer except diving.

Nikki Kintner, MA, ALC, NCC

Counselor

Nikki is an Associate Licensed Counselor under the supervision of Lisa Keane, LPC-S. She did her undergraduate work at Kennesaw State University and holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. After teaching children in a small private school for ten years, she studied at Montevallo University and received her Masters in Couples and Family Counseling. She is a Nationally Board Certified Counselor with the NBCC and a member of the American Counseling Association. She is trained in EMDR.

Using an integrative approach to therapy, Nikki pulls from a variety of therapeutic approaches to meet the specific needs of her clients. She sees children, adolescents, and adults. She works with children using a family systems approach; she holds sessions with parents alongside the child who needs support. Nikki prioritizes trauma and body-based therapies in her work with clients and specializes in grief and loss, developmental trauma, and child therapy. Her desire is for each client to feel safe, seen, and deeply known while she witnesses their growth and healing.

When it’s not hot outside, Nikki finds herself hiking trails, looking for waterfalls, and admiring flowers and fireflies. If it’s hot outside, she’ll most likely be doing puzzles with her favorite 6-year-old, sipping an iced chai latte in her local coffee shop, or sharing cookie dough and a good conversation with a friend.

Caroline Bennett, LMSW

Counselor

Caroline is a Licensed Master Social Worker and graduated from Samford University in 2024 with a Masters degree in social work. She attended the University of Alabama and received her Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology and Addiction & Recovery in 2022. Caroline has worked in a variety of settings, such as inpatient psychiatric care, collegiate recovery and intervention services, adolescent trauma-focused residential homes, and substance use treatment with veterans. During her graduate research, Caroline grew a calling to advocate for first responder mental health resources and education on self-care tools. She is passionate about providing a compassionate and peaceful space for individuals to begin walking in freedom from the impacts of trauma, grief, and substance use. Caroline engages individuals with a multi-theoretical approach to help best address their specific needs for healing.

In Caroline’s free time, you will likely find her being active outside, whether it be tennis, pickleball, yoga, or running. She enjoys baking and cooking new dishes, but she will never pass up grabbing a good coffee and diving into reading a new book.

Daniel Lawson, ICP

IASIS Technician

Daniel graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and has been administering MCN since the Fall of 2022. He has experience in various ministerial and outreach settings and loves getting to see people find growth and healing.

When Daniel isn’t providing treatment, he’s probably watching/playing sports somewhere or checking his fantasy football team.
